James and Patricia Pate broke ground on their dream home in the millennium year of 2000. A haven for nature lovers and sportsmen alike, the "Pate Estate" is situated on forty acres in the rolling hills of Northumberland County, with panoramic views of beautiful Rice Lake. The 6,000 square foot home was custom built with seven bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom, and a covered wrap-around verandah that makes for an ideal location to observe birds and wildlife. It also boasts a spa, 300 yard golf driving range, and easy access to Rice Lake, known for some of the best fishing in Ontario. The nearby Northumberland Forest has many hiking, cross country skiing, and snowmobile trails, along with hunting and horseback riding. In 2006 The Pate Family opened their home to travelers, and the Hillview Haven Bed & Breakfast was born.
